01 - In a large pitcher, combine freshly squeezed lemon juice and sugar. Stir well until sugar is completely dissolved. Add cold water and lemon slices, then mix to combine. Refrigerate until chilled.
02 - Place each type of fresh fruit in separate bowls or jars for easy serving. Arrange mint, basil, and syrups in small containers with spoons or pourers. Set out plenty of ice or keep it in an ice bucket.
03 - Place the chilled lemonade base, fruit bowls, herbs, syrups, and ice on a table or counter. Provide glasses, straws, and stirrers for guest use.
04 - Allow guests to fill their glasses with ice and lemonade, then customize with their choice of fruits, herbs, and syrups. Stir and enjoy.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • Your guests become the creators instead of passive drinkers, which somehow makes everything taste better.
  • It's refreshingly easy to pull together yet feels like you've hosted something thoughtful and special.
  • Everyone finds their perfect combination, so you're not stuck trying to please ten different palates with one drink.
02 -
  • Fresh-squeezed lemon juice makes an enormous difference in flavor, so don't skip the citrus juicer; bottles of concentrate taste thin and chemical by comparison.
  • Prep your fruit the morning of or up to a few hours ahead, but don't slice it too far in advance or colors will dull and fruit will start weeping liquid into everything.
03 -
  • Make your lemonade base the night before so flavors marry together and you're not squeezing lemons five minutes before guests arrive in the heat.
  • Keep extra fruit and ice nearby because people will use way more than you think once they start experimenting with multiple servings.
